The 2006 Kenton County Fair is Dedicated to:

DEDICATION 2006 KENTON COUNTY FAIR
MR. WILLIAM E. DURR
The 2006 Kenton County Fair is dedicated to Mr. William E. Durr. Mr. Durr is a life-long resident of Kenton County and still resides in Independence with Virginia, his wife of sixty-six years. He has one son, Roy, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Every person living in Kenton County has benefited in some way from the efforts of this generous and devoted man. If Bill is a pillar of the community, then he must be the cornerstone of the Kenton County Fair. Mr. Durr’s resume of service and accomplishments while active with the Kenton County Fair can not be duplicated. Bill has served as Director for twenty-four of the Fair’s forty-four years, his first term in 1965. He has filled the office of Vice President for six years and that of President for eight. In 1988, Bill helped launch the Kenton County Fair 4H/FFA Sale of Champions. Not only has this event remained afloat, it has grown to be one of the most successful sales in the state. In 1989, under the careful navigation of Fair Board President William E. Durr, the Kenton County Fair was named the Most Progressive Fair in Kentucky. The Most Progressive Fair Runner-up title was awarded to the Kenton County Fair in 1990. Bill’s prolific eight year course as president culminated in 1993 with his being named Outstanding Fair Person in Kentucky. For many years Bill has served as chairman of the grounds committee supervising electric and water installation and service. He has spent untold hours mowing, cleaning, building, repairing, painting, preparing and beautifying the grounds each year. At 90 years young, Bill still handles fair booth rental and continues to be chief salesman of catalog ads.Even with all this considered, Bill’s greatest gift has been his influence on the people around him, from his summer grounds crew at the fairgrounds to the handful of other Kenton County Fair founders still remaining, and everyone in between. William E. Durr, by example, has taught boys how to become men and adults how to become community leaders. His legacy continues to inspire a league of Kenton County Fair Board Members.
